BITS OF THIS AND THAT

GOOD FRIENDS ARE A TREASURE. HANG ONTO THEM TIGHTLY.

Isn’t this yarn beautiful?

It’s silk and was a gift from my

good friend, Jenny M.

How lucky can I be?

And then there were these beautiful needles.

Now I will certainly need to get busy

and try to make something

worthy of these gifts.

I do love to knit so I’ll have to get out

my patterns and make a decision.

All of this will make a perfect travel project.

Many thanks Jenny!

A GARDEN AT LAST

Tomato Blossoms

 How exciting?

My first tomato blossoms here in Whitewater.

I finally got a raised bed thanks to a lot of help from L and a friend.

There is something calming to me when I work in the garden.  I can go out

there and pull a few weeds and instantly feel the stress leaving me.

One might ask, what does a retired lady have to be stressed about?

For me it is usually the stress of self set deadlines . I always want to do more and more.

As my son once said to me when I was talking about too many things on my platter,

“so what else is new?”

Better for me to have too many things to do rather than being bored.

How awful that would be when the world is full of wonderful and exciting things  to do and see.

I believe in the saying, “I have so many things on my to do list that I can never die.”

TRUE FRIENDS ARE THOSE WHO REALLY KNOW YOU BUT LOVE YOU ANYWAY.

THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THE BEAUTY OF THEIR DREAMS ELEANOR ROOSEVELT

Manatee Park in Florida

Last January we were lucky enough to visit relatives

and friends in Florida.  One of the

places we went was to this park.

The vegetation was lush and beautiful and

the Manatees were so interesting.  I was amazed , when

looking at the info there, at the similiarity of the Manatee flipper to the

human hand skeleton.  They were so much fun to watch.  Unfortunately

I didn’t get a picture of them.  I guess that

I was just too busy  enjoying them.

Having lived in Florida at one point in my life, it was fun to

revisit the vegetation that I so enjoyed.

I think that there must be a piece of fiber

art lurking in there.

Tomorrow it’s to check out my dye supply and

prepare to do some dyeing on Thursday.

I’m going to try the ice dying and also do

some discharging on denim.

There just might be some pictures in there.

So now I’m going to try to post this.

It will be interesting to see where it ends

up this time, cyberspace or on the net.

THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THE BEAUTY OF THEIR DREAMS

Cyberspace must be getting be getting really full by now.

I can’t seem to get the entire post published.

It must be one of those frustrating learning things,

or heaven forbide, could it me an old age trick?

Those of you who sew will know what a walking foot is.

I was using one when I was stitching on the

table runner.  The machine wouldn’t stitch

consistently and sometimes it would just stop

and then go backwards.  Finally the bulb goes off and I checked the foot.

I had attached it incorrectly.  Duh.  Some relearning

going on here.  How long does this go on or maybe

it’s just old age doing it’s thing, once again.

It’s now done except for a sleeve and the final

pressing job.  I’m happy with the colors

and the sharp points that paper

piecing allows.  What should I name it?

Another hot day with no relief in sight.  We are so

lucky here in Grand Junction that we

are just getting the smoke and no flames.  The

smoke does make for beautiful sunsets and sunrises tho.

This morning I was out walking early enough to see the sun

as it came over the Grand Mesa.  Beautiful!

ENJOY THE DAY

So I got new walking shoes.  Do you think that they will encourage me to do more walking? Aren’t the rocks pretty?  They are around all of our patios.  What a wonderful piece of color and texture. I figure that I sure could use the encouragement of something colorful.  Life gets so busy that I tend to put exercise on the bottom of the list.  Then there is this heat, 101 degrees yesterday.  That  doesn’t help either along with the wind.  The wind gets so variable sometimes that all I do is run from window to window trying to adjust for the swamp cooler, or evaporative cooler as they are more often called.  When we first came out here to visit my daughter we drove up to their house in the heat of the day.  They had doors and windows open.  My heart dropped as I was sure that the house must be an oven.  Imagine my delight when I walked into a nice cool place.  Right then I fell in love with the swamp coolers.  Open windows and cool rooms.  It’s enough to spend the winters with the windows closed to the elements.  How nice to be able to spend the summers with open windows.

I’m just about finished with a table runner that I have been working on.  It is paper pieced so allows for nice sharp points.  Maybe tomorrow I’ll have it finished and can post a picture.  Then again, remember that there is life going on.  Think I need a maid and a cook.  Any takers?

This is a poor picture, blame the photographer (me) of a challenge that I participated in this spring.

It is called the Chinese Whispers.  A picture is selected by the first person and they make a piece of fiber art based on something from that picture.  They then pass their piece of art to the next person who makes a piece of art from something in that piece of art, return the piece that they were working from and pass their piece to the next person in the group.  This continues to the end, with each person seeing only the previous piece and their piece until the big reveal.  To see the entire group go to   www.theartquiltassociation.com
