BITS OF THIS AND THAT

FINALLY THE WILD ANIMALS ON THE MESA

Have you ever wondered about what you

just might see when you walk around Powderhorn Ski

Resort on the Grand Mesa?

Well, take a look at what I found one morning while

out for a walk.

As I was walking back to the condo on the road

just above the parking lot I heard

a rustling in the trees.  Low and behold but if

I didn’t see these big critters.  At first they ignored

me and laid down.  Then this one got just a little

curious and started towards me.  I

decided that it was time to move on, took a

quick picture with my phone and headed down the road

back to the safety of the condo.  You may laugh, but

these are large animals and when there are

young ones in the trees, you’d best leave them alone.

And that is just what I did.  Back to the condo, eat breakfast, clean

up and head back to town.  The end of another beautiful time

on the Mesa.

ENJOY THE DAY.  IT IS DELICIOUS!!

FINAL STAGE WITH THE KIDS, AGAIN

I love it when things go wrong and things don’t post.

This always happens when I have written

a longer post.  Oh well, here goes again.

Aren’t these shirts a blast.  They will be first day of school

attire.  I’ll be eager to hear what their friends have to say.

Not everyone who got a shirt showed up for

the final picture.  Some folks were still working.

The heat is back again.  96 degrees today.

The worst part is all of the smoke that is collecting

in the Grand Valley.  The weather patterns are such that

we are collecting smoke from the unfortunate people

further west and north who are suffering from disasterous fires

like Colorado had last month.  It has been a long, hot, dry summer.

Hopefully winter will bring lots of snow in the mountains.

STAGE 3 WITH THE KIDS

The next day when the shirts had batched over night.

Aren’t they a glorious sight?  They are hanging on

my fancy clothes line, the wire fence.

Just a little wind blowing.  What a

surprise for Whitewater.  The real surprise

is when the wind isn’t blowing.  Then we think

the reason for the calm is that the wind

is changing direction and getting

ready for a real blow.

I don’t think that anyone could

accuse this group of being afraid of

color.  Just my kind of people.

Now, guess what the question was.  Can we wear them

right now?  I guess that means that they

were happy with the results and

that is good.  The next step was to hose them

down to get rid of the excess dyes and then to run

them through the washing machine 3 times to

get as much dye out as possible.

Watch for the final results tomorrow.

STAGE 2 WITH THE NEIGHBORS

The dyes are out warming up and waiting for the kids.

Fifteen different colors.  Could be quite a

rainbow.

Heavy concentration with just a little supervision.

Maybe if I pour it on it’ll get into all the folds.

Bagging the shirts to batch.

All the bags are nicely arranged into a

hot air ballon with it’s  basket.

They should certainly batch nicely in the sun looking like that.

Even the wipe up clothes will be put to

good use in a collage.

ENJOY THE DAY!!!  IT’S DELICIOUS

STAGE ONE WITH THE NEIGHBORS

I invited the 4 neighbor kids to come over and dye t-shirts.

What you see pictured at the top is a must for any dyeing project.

And  yes, it is benign iced tea.  Friday morning I

mixed up a new batch of 15 dyes.  Being careful, it took me awhile

to get that done.  Of course, I was out of urea water to mix the dyes

and also needed to mix up soda ash for soaking the shirts.

Another beautiful pic of me being careful.  I used to

laugh to myself about people wearing masks to mix the

dyes, but after someone told me about what was

in their nose after mixing dyes and not using the mask, I

changed my mind.

I had suggested that they bring their shirts over the night before

and then I would start soaking them before they got here.

This is what a couple of the kids brought over, 14 shirts

swirled and rubberbanded ready to go.

My computer has not been playing nice with the wireless router

so I have had a hard time posting anything new.  If

all works well, tomorrow will be stage 2  of the dye party.

ENJOY LIFE.  IT IS DELICIOUS!!

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THESE ARE?

If you are a skier or haunt ski areas because of kids or grandkids you have

have seen these in motion, but not laying on the ground like this.

These are the chairs that will soon be attached to the lifts

to bring skiers to new heights of glory and fun.

It’s hard to believe that ski season will be here in

just a few months, especially when we are

enjoying (?) 100 degree days here in the Grand Valley.

I keep saying that we’ll look back on these days with longing

when the temps are colder and there just might be some of

that white stuff on the ground.  We don’t get much here in the valley

and it usually doesn’t stay unless we have one of those

dreaded inversions.  Then we have bad air, the snow stays, and

no one is happy.  Some people have even been known

to flee to warmer climes.

For now I’m enjoying being able to wear shorts and a

tee shirt and feel young again.  That is until my

muscles tell me that I have neglected my walking

and I need to do it more regularly.

Those social engagements that start in the morning

and tend to go on.  Oh, how I hate them.  Ha ha.

It is people that keep me going, happy and feeling young.

FRIENDS AND WINE SHOULD BE OLD.

HMMMMM GOOD AFTER A WALK ON THE MESA

Hot oatmeal, fresh peaches and a book

on the balcony of the condo at Powderhorn Ski Resort.

What a way to start a day after a long walk.  I was

very hungry so made a double batch of

oatmeal.  RIPE peaches made the

fruit element just perfect.

And this is the view that I enjoyed

while eating.  What a relaxing morning.  It was

a cool evening so sleeping was perfect, the windows

open to let in the fresh cool air.  Something

we don’t always get down in the

valley.  Hated to leave, but it was starting

to get warm up there and no

swamp coolers. How quickly one girl from

Minnesota can get spoiled.  In Minnesota we have

heat AND humidity.  We do enjoy the low

humidity here.

Well, I didn’t research how to get the

pictures off of my phone, so will have to

do that tomorrow.  I have a couple of interesting

pictures of wild life there.
