BITS OF THIS AND THAT

WOULD YOU BELIEVE ALL OF THESE

_BEB5705IMG_0896-004

These are probably two of my favorites.   Made from used tea bags, washers colored with alcohol inks, machine stitching and lots of hand stitching.

I was looking at the pictures of the fiber art that I have done in the years since moving to Grand Junction and decided to put them on here.  Can’t believe how many there are.  Some are in new homes and some are still with me.  So here goes.  No particular order.  This does not show the silk scarves I have painted nor the garments that I have dyed or embellished.  As you can see, I like to use many different techniques.

Look and enjoy!

These two were inspired by the works of Kandinsky.23 Gjeneve Hopkinson f 1 of 1KANDISKY CROPPED

SOME HAVE A GUARD DOG

IMG_0441

Some people have a guard dog.

We have a guard mallard.

Every morning he stands in our front yard

quacking away at anyone who

gets to close.  Must be a nest nearby that

we can’t find.

What better protection could a poor girl want?

IMG_0430

Then there is this little cutie who

chatters away when I get

near the garden when it has

taken up residence.

Ahh, the wonders of the animal kingdom.

FINALLY SPRING IN MINNESOTA, MAYBE

IMG_0432

The tulips have been blooming for several days now.

It’s good that they are a hardy plant as

we have been having temps about 20 degress

below normal here.

It’s so cheery to see these right

outside the front door.

IMG_0440

And the pear tree is blooming.  These

blossoms are so fragile looking, but

do produce some very good fruit.

IMG_0431

I’ve been working hard in the garden, splitting sedum

and hostas and replanting them into

areas that are bare

My philosophy is—the less bare ground

the fewer weeds.  One can hope.

I’ll either have some nice green plants

or some lovely brown leaves.

I also bought 10 bags of chips that I spread

some of the gardens.  I’ll have to get more on Saturday.

Tomorrow it’s to buy some annuals

to fill in for when the tulips die

and also some for the back gardens.

Next time, hopefully pictures of the art piece

that I have been working on this past week.

Lots of foundation piecing.

Hopefully makes for sharp points and nice rounded curves.

EARTH WITHOUT ART IS JUST EH!

IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME

IMG_0378It’s been a long time since I have posted.  Once I dropped the habit, I just didn’t get back to it.

Today I posted on the Raven Maven’ s blog.  The Raven Mavens is a small group that I

belong to..  We do smaller pieces and show out art as a group show.

Last week I taught a mini class on controlled rusting.

This group has a blog and it was decided that the person, we take turns,

who presents something to the group would also

write something for our blog.

So, I’m inviting you check out this blog and see what we

have been up to lately.

gjravenmaven.blogspot.com

I almost forgot to enter the blog address.

The picture above is what I did to show something that

could be done with the rusting process.

LUNCH WITH SOME FAMILY

IMG_0196

My son was in town this weekend and we decided to drive into Fargo

and see my older sister and her husband.  We all went to lunch at Denny’s.

Nothing better than family, laughs, and food.

The weather turned  nice so it was a perfect day for an outing.

We have to do this  more often.

Next week we’re planning to go to the Twin Cities to have lunch with my brother.

More good family times.  Unfortunately, my son

will be working so won’t be able to join us.  Someone has to

work to pay into SS so that I can continue to collect.

LIFE CAN BE GOOD.  ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!

SUMMER IN MAINE

IMG_0147

How lucky we were to be able to spend a week here

in this cabin on China Lake in Maine.  The weather was hot but

the lake was cool and felt so refreshing.

This place belongs to my brother-in-law and he joined us

for part of the week.

IMG_0136

Now, this is one of the best reasons to go to

the east coast,  LOBSTER  LUNCHES!!

As you can see, we left nothing for the fishes.  It was great.

We did this twice .  Each time we were lucky to

share a table in the shade with interesting people.

This is another fun part of eating lunch at a picnic table

at a lobster pound.  Often times these people are from other

parts of the country also and much interesting conversation can be had.

We left Maine and went to CT to see more of the in-laws.  Daughter-in-law

who lives in Germany right now was there with her little girl.

This was our first chance to see her in person.  Much better than Skyping

but Skyping is better than nothing.  Soon they will be heading

back to Germany and who knows when we’ll see them again.

We were also fortunate to spend a few hours with my niece and her

family in CT.  We don’t get to see them very often either.  Families can

be spread so far apart these days so when an opportunity arises

to see family, it must be grabbed.

It was a great 2 weeks being able to spend time with family

we don’t get to see very often.

Back home again to the weeds that had lots of fun

while I was gone.

LIFE IS SHORT.  ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF IT.

LIFE IS GOOD

IMG_0112

                                                      DOWN BY THE LAKE

Here I sit, on our screen porch enjoying a beautiful day.  Painted the first coat

of paint on the new railing top on the small deck.  Now it’s to wait

for it to dry before putting on the second coat.

Yesterday we went to Fargo and took my eldest sister and

brother-in-law to lunch.  The day was beautiful and the company

was also.  Lots of laughs and conversations.  We need to do

that more often while we’re still here in MN.  We saw a restaurant

that we are going to try next time.  They have outdoor seating and I

really enjoy being outdoors.  I just wonder if their

Long Island Tea is as good as the one at Applebee’s.

ENJOY THE DAY.  LIFE IS SHORT.
