What a beautiful sight I found when driving downtown
to do some shopping. Many flags flying in the breeze
when driving by Veterans Memorial Park.
Nothing stirs the heart quite like “old glory” on
a beautiful day.
We’re back in Minnesota. Arrived Wednesday about 6:00 pm after
a marathon drive from Colorado. We left about 9:00 PM Tuesday after
dinner with the kids and ended up driving straight through.
Needles to say, we were tired when we got here. Once again we had the van packed
to max. I got most of my things out of the van and dumped into the house
before collapsing into bed. Thursday was a nice day here. The sun was shining
and the wind was on low speed. Groceries were purchased and things
were put away. It was even nice enough to sit on the screen porch for dinner.
The grass NEEDS to be cut and we are waiting for the lawn service to come. This
morning (Friday), it is gray, windy, and looks like it will rain again any moment.
The gardens are loving this wet spring and the weeds aren’t even too bad.
This is the first time that we are really seeing the gardens so it’s been fun.
Two of my favorites are in full bloom, lilacs and a fern peony. I grew
up with lilacs and peonies so this is a nice welcome to a MN summer.
Now we are trying to figure out what one of the birds is that
we see flying around. It is a large white bird and we are debating what it is.
I’ll try to get a picture, post it and maybe someone will be
able to help me with the identification.
We are hoping for some nice weather to enjoy the outdoors here.
The weatherman is conspiring to keep us indoors as they are
forcasteing more rain for the next few days. I think that we have seen more
rain here in a day than we do in Colorado in a month. Quite a change.
Have a good day.
LIFE IS SHORT. ENJOY EVERY MOMENT
It’s a lesson that I learned a long time ago.
NEVER SAY NEVER!
I never said that I would not move back to Minnesota,
but I did say that I wouldn’t move back permanently.
So, here we are, living in Fergus Falls, MN as a second home.
Lee wanted to be able to get out of the heat of Colorado
and did he ever manage that.
Not only did we buy this home in a blizzard, but when we
arrived here it was COLD, even for here. We’ve been here 2 weeks
and I’ve worn a sweatshirt or jacket every day. Some lakes are still frozen over
and the fishing opener is this weekend.
The picture above is what we saw from out living room window. A crane eyeing
our floating bog. We have been watching, swans, cranes, geese, and ducks on the
lake. Not as many birds are around now. Hopefully they are just nesting and
some of them will return. It’s so much fun to watch them.
This is what it looks like now. The ice is all gone here and the floating
bog has blown much closer to shore. We think that some ducks
are trying to nest there.
So, if anyone is in the Fergus area get in touch with me and
maybe we can get together.
LIFE IS GOOD. ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN.
This has been a busy winter for us.
Company for the holidays and now just recently.
My crafting friend and her husband from Minneapolis stopped
by for a couple of days on their way home from California. We always
have a good time. This time we took a day for art playing. We made gelatin
plates and did some printing. Diane had brought some beautiful paints with her and
she did some wonderful prints to use with her water color painting. I just played around
with acrylics and different resists. I have never had much luck with gelatin printing,
but after using the nicer paints, I may have discovered my problem, don’t be quite so cheap
with some of my supplies. It really can make a difference with some things. There are places
to economize and places where that should not happen.
A week or so later we had another couple stop by on their way back to
Minneapolis from Arizona. He is an old sailing buddy. More friends
that are great to have as company. The weather was not very pleasant when they were here
so we just did a little car sightseeing and spent time visiting.
Watch for my next post when I’ll tell you what I managed to squeeze in art
wise this winter.
I need some quotes. Left mine all in Colorado. Any suggestions?
Some people who write blogs do a picture only day. Since I like to be different,
I’m doing a NO picture day. I have a new camera and need to
practice with it. I’m planning to retake some of
the pictures that I have on my website as those on there now are of poor quality.
I now have the camera and a tripod. I just need to figure out a good
background and then I’ll have no excuses.
This morning I made a batch of carmelized onions. Guess what the house
smells like. I love the onions and have several things I want to make using them
so decided that today was the day. Now it’s to figure out how to get the smell to migrate
to the outside.
It has been very cold here this winter. We have had over 20 days where the temperature
has not moved above freezing. It’s been warmer in Mpls that here.
But, now Mpls is paying the price. They have had several days when the
temperatures have not gotten above 0 degrees. My son has been walking to work
and the cold tried to freeze his eyes shut the other day. Not for me anymore.

Just a little alcohol ink work to get you to look at this blog.
My website is online and ready for viewing and shopping. Give it a look and tell
me what you think. I have included things from yesterday
and today. I will be adding new items periodically, so check it out regularly.
And, I may even start blogging again more frequently.
It’s been a cold winter here. I could just as well be back in MN. You would
think that I would have more time to blog, etc. but just not the case.
Makes me want to settle in with my knitting or a good book along with a
glass or cup of something good.

Dinner with my daughter and her family. She always sets such a beautiful table. Now the girls are old enough to be a big help so I didn’t
even go over to help set the table. One made the dressing and the other one peeled the potatoes. The other grandparents were there also.
We are all just one big family after all these years. As usual, it was delicious and we all ate more than enough. My cookies were a big success which
means that I’ll get to repeat the baking process before Christmas which will be a pleasure. I don’t bake very often anymore. My son is coming
out from Minneapolis to spend some time with us right before Christmas so I want to be sure to have some baked goods when he comes.
Unfortunately he has to work the 24th so will go back on the 23rd. Any time that he can spend out here is good so we don’t complain when
he has to go back early. We’ll just have a Christmas with him while he is out here.
It is highly unlikely we’ll have a white Christmas down here in town. It is not often that we have snow on the ground for
any length of time unless we have an inversion after a snowfall. They did get some snow on top of the Grand Mesa this morning
which is good. The ski area is scheduled to open the 13th and some natural snow would be good. The girls have
been training at Aspen since Powderhorn isn’t open yet. None of the open ski areas out here have much base. There
is a lot of concern about the lack of precipitation this year. Could mean for another wicked summer. We’re
all hoping for lots of snow “in the mountains.”
