COLOR SUNDAY ON THE GRAND MESA

Entry to Powderhorn Ski Resort.

Although the leaves are heralding fall, there are still

some signs of summer.

Tomorrow is Color Sunday on the Grand Mesa.  It should be

beautiful.  Even tho the aspen leaves are beautiful,

I do miss the colors of Minnesota, the red maples especially.

One year I am going to go back and enjoy them also.

I miss going to Lake of the Clouds in Porcupine State Park,

in the Upper Peninusla of Michigan.  We always tried to take an

afternoon and drive up there when we were at the lake.

Looking down on the lake, stream, and palette of colors could

be almost breathtaking.

Tomorrow the town of Mesa is having a craft sale as

part of Color Sunday.  A friend and I are sharing a table.

I’ll have my silk scarves and a few other things.  Come see up if

you can.  It’ll be a beautiful day and drive.  I think that I have overworked

the word beautiful, so feel free to subsitute georgous.

ENJOY THE DAY.  IT IS DELICIOUS

BIRTHDAY TIME AGAIN

Who are you watching so closely, Birgit?  Could it be your sister?

Did she have some good birthday wishes for you?

It was a happy birthday party for Birgit, husband L, and his brother

who has visiting us from CT.  They all have August birthdays.

The homecoming picture was a dress up time.  The birthdays

are always a casual time.  Notice her bracelet.  It’s the same

style as the one she made for me, just a different color.

We were a little late in celebrating, but since we

were in MN at the time of her birthday, we scheduled it for after

we got home.  How fast the years go by.  The kids

seem to get older, but of course, we don’t.  Wish Wish

Birthday dinners are always so much fun since

everyone is always in a good mood, ready to laugh and talk.

We’re lucky in that the other grandparents almost always come down

from Rudi Resevoir.

HOW FAST THEY GROW UP

Palisade Homecoming

Can this really be the baby I held in my arms

just about 15 years ago?  How lucky I am to have such

a beautiful granddaughter living close to me.  This is

her first year in high school.  She is going to Palisade High School

in the Grand Junction District.  All of the kids from

her previous school went to the Homecoming Dance

together.  Some of you may have seen the picture of all of them on my facebook

page.  They are such a nice group of kids.  Now, tell me,

do you think this makes me feel old?  The bones will

really creak when I go for my walk tomorrow.  I don’t know about

anyone else, but it seems just yesterday that I was thinking

about my high school homecoming,  and then there was college,

and then my kids homecomings.  It so nice to have kids and

grandkids who grow up to be such nice people. I feel

very lucky with my  family.  Tomorrow i’LL post a picture of the

other granddaughter here in Junction, I hope.  That is

if I don’t goof up again.

TOO POOPED TO POP

This was the week to start some fall housecleaning.

We have been working on windows, inside and out.  Lubing

the rollers, cleaning the track that they slide

on, and then washing outside windows.

It’s great to have lots of windows to let in light

until it’s time to clean them and/or the blinds on

each and every one.  I think we have about

29 windows.  Almost done.  I’m just not used to being

on my feet all day with no sitting down

to sew.  My machine is going to go hot and

furious soon.  Too many ideas and projects rolling

around in my mind.   Hope your fall cleaning is going

better than mine.  Company coming Saturday for

a few days, so no cleaning, but maybe some sewing

as the guys head out to do guy things.

IT’S TIME

The weather even here is telling me it’s time to start

thinking about fall.  This morning it was warm

but the day was rainy, cloudy, and cool until

into the afternoon.  Pretty unusual here in

SW Colorado.  The forecast was just on and

they are talking about highs in the 80’s and lows

in the 50’s.  Guess I need to take down my

crows and melon

for this year and put up the black cat.  Fall is always

my favorite time of the year.  I love the cool nights and

warm days.  I used to love to rake the leaves in MN, even tho

it often didn’t happen until too late and I had to work

until dark or later to catch the trash hauler the

next day.  Now I have no leaves to rake but

hope to make a trip up to the Grand Mesa to look

at the colors.  The aspens can make a hillside glow.

Nothing can beat nature for the show it puts on season by season.

The big news out here weatherwise is that there was SNOW

at the top of Pike’s Peak.  A couple of years ago when I was

still skiing, this would have set my heart racing with anticipation, but

since I have not skied in a few years, I’m just glad that it

was in the higher elevations and there it can stay for awhile.

OOOOOPS

How can one person be so uncoordinated?

I had this great piece all written

with pictures and somehow lost it.

Drives me crazy.  So here goes again.

Before heading out on our whirlwind trip to MN

and WI I decided to go just a little crazy.

My oldest granddaughter here

in town loves to paint fingernails.  I decided

to let her work on me.  Here is the result of my fingers.

Three different colors on the nails and then a

crackle finish on top of that.

Then there were the toenails.

This time just one color with the crackle.  What a hoot.

The fingernails are back to normal.  I’ve been painting and

dyeing fabric and that doesn’t really allow for

beautiful fingernails.  The toenails are still beautiful tho.

The youner granddaughter here was making bracelets when

I was over there.  She makes them from parachute cord.

They are perfect for casual wear and fun.

Now it’s time to get serious.  I’m working on finishing up a few projects

and trying to get my studio room organized, again.

This time, tho, I’m throwing and filing.  It’s about time as

I was afraid I was going to have to get another room soon.  Right.

How do you keep things organized?  I’d rather do

than organize and that just doesn’t work.  I guess

it’s time for some self discipline.  Crack that whip Gjeneve.

ENJOY THE DAY AS IT IS DELICIOUS

I’M BACK

Back from another fast and hectic trip to MN & WI.

We did get to see all the family, did a small amount of

shopping and saw just a couple of friends.

I’m already thinking about how to get more

free time in Mpls. to visit with friends and SHOP.

Grand Junction is not exactly shoppers heaven.

When we left, we turned off the water.

And that included the drip system, unfortunately.

Guess what my garden looked like when we got home.

This is what the basil plant looked like and

the mint plant looked just the same.  The parsley

was barely surviving.  BUT

after just one day of watering the basil came back

and the parsley looked healthier.  The Colorado heat

just couldn’t finish them off.  What flowers aren’t overrun

by the tomatoes are doing good also.  Next year will be different.

I thought I had the tomatoes under control, but the two

weeks without water and clipping did me in.

ENJOY THE DAY FOR IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

FINALLY THE WILD ANIMALS ON THE MESA

Have you ever wondered about what you

just might see when you walk around Powderhorn Ski

Resort on the Grand Mesa?

Well, take a look at what I found one morning while

out for a walk.

As I was walking back to the condo on the road

just above the parking lot I heard

a rustling in the trees.  Low and behold but if

I didn’t see these big critters.  At first they ignored

me and laid down.  Then this one got just a little

curious and started towards me.  I

decided that it was time to move on, took a

quick picture with my phone and headed down the road

back to the safety of the condo.  You may laugh, but

these are large animals and when there are

young ones in the trees, you’d best leave them alone.

And that is just what I did.  Back to the condo, eat breakfast, clean

up and head back to town.  The end of another beautiful time

on the Mesa.

ENJOY THE DAY.  IT IS DELICIOUS!!

FINAL STAGE WITH THE KIDS, AGAIN

I love it when things go wrong and things don’t post.

This always happens when I have written

a longer post.  Oh well, here goes again.

Aren’t these shirts a blast.  They will be first day of school

attire.  I’ll be eager to hear what their friends have to say.

Not everyone who got a shirt showed up for

the final picture.  Some folks were still working.

The heat is back again.  96 degrees today.

The worst part is all of the smoke that is collecting

in the Grand Valley.  The weather patterns are such that

we are collecting smoke from the unfortunate people

further west and north who are suffering from disasterous fires

like Colorado had last month.  It has been a long, hot, dry summer.

Hopefully winter will bring lots of snow in the mountains.

ENJOY LIFE!  IT IS DELICIOUS
